Dental Technology San Mateo
CEREC technology allows us to create strong, customized, tooth-colored ceramic restorations right here in the office, usually within a single appointment. No temporary, no second and best of all a beautiful all porcelain restoration with no black margin at the gum line. A single visit is required and the aesthetics are beautiful. In the course of one visit, we can prepare your damaged tooth, create an optical impression of the tooth, and use CEREC to design and mill a precision restoration, which is then permanently bonded to your tooth. No mess, no discomfort, no wait. Get the smile you want and get back to your life. We know you’ve got more important things to do.
Lasers have been used in dentistry to treat a number of dental problems. In our office, laser dental technology is used to for tooth decay, gum disease, and widely applied for teeth whitening.
Tooth Decay
It is utilized to clean up decay within a tooth and have the surrounding enamel prepared for receipt of the filling. For some cases, it is also used to cure or harden a filling.
Gum disease
During root canal procedures, lasers are used to reshape gums and clean up bacteria.
Teeth Whitening
Lasers effectively shorten the time for the teeth whitening procedures as the peroxide bleaching solution applied to the tooth surface is activated by the lasers.
How does it work?
During the process, lasers deliver energy in the form of light.
For whitening procedures, the laser beam acts as a source of heat and thus intensifying the effect of tooth bleaching agents.
For surgical procedures, the lasers perform as a cutting instrument or a vaporizer of the tissue that is being contacted.
For curing a filling, the lasers assist the process of strengthening the bond between the filling and the tooth.
Why it might be good for you:
As it may cause less pain in some cases, therefore it may reduce anxiety for patients that are uncomfortable with dental drill. It may also minimize bleeding and swelling for procedures that involve treating soft tissues.
However, there are few issues to consider:
Lasers technology is only available for selected dental procedures, for instances it cannot be used to fill cavities found between teeth. More, it may not be used to remove defective crowns or silver fillings. Laser is not applicable on teeth with fillings that are already in place. It has a higher price tag when it is compared to traditional dental drill.
Feel free to consult with our San Mateo Dentists or let our staff tell you more about the procedures and cost of the laser treatments.
Fiori Dental of San Mateo offers a full range of cosmetic dentistry including professional teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is the #1 requested and performed cosmetic dental procedure. Teeth whitening (sometimes called teeth bleaching) is a procedure that brightens teeth and helps to remove stains and discoloration.
Throughout the day a thin coating of bio film collect on teeth, the bio film can attract stains that can be trapped in the pores of tooth’s enamel.
Teeth whitening by a dental professional is key as cavities need to be treated before teeth are whitened. Cavities are problematic because whitening solution can penetrate the cavity allowing decay to reach inner areas of a tooth. People with good dental health may also use a kit to whiten teeth at home. However, in a single office visit, teeth whiting preformed by a dental professional will produce brighter results that are more consistent in color across all teeth.
Teeth whitening is a cost-effective way to enjoy the benefits of cosmetic dentistry. From our location in San Mateo, we are your fast and knowledgeable source to provide you with bright, sparkling smiles.

Invisalign San Mateo
Invisalign is a series of clear, removable teeth aligners that our San Mateo Orthodontists use as an alternative to traditional metal dental braces.
Invisalign® takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements that our San Mateo Orthodontists plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You just pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete. You’ll achieve a great smile with little interference in your daily life. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth.
In the initial stage, an orthodontist begins by collecting dental impressions, x-rays and photographs of the patient’s teeth and sending them to Align Technology. The impressions are put through a CT scan from which a computer creates a three-dimensional model. Technicians then individualize the teeth in the computer model and move them to their final position as prescribed by the orthodontist. Custom software then simulates the movement of the teeth in stages. The orthodontist reviews the simulation online using Align Technology’s ClinCheck via a web browser and approves or modifies the treatment. Once approved, a plastic resin aligner is manufactured for each stage of the computer simulation and shipped to the orthodontist.
‘Attachments’ are sometimes bonded to teeth that need to be “rotated” or moved more than other teeth. Clients can expect as many as thirteen attachments. They are tooth-colored and made of a glass-like substance.
‘Reproximation’ is a process by which the contacts between teeth are sanded down to allow for a better fit. This may also be a part of treatment.
The average treatment time for Invisalign is about 1 year, and again it depends on the complexity of the treatment. Simple treatments (minor crowding, minor spacing) may take as short as 140 days. Although the aligners are removable, they must be worn at least 20 to 22 hours per day to avoid delaying the treatment process. If they are not worn consistently, treatment time will increase.
After the regular aligner or braces treatment is complete, retainers composed of a similar plastic material are usually required to be worn, at least at night.
Like other orthodontic systems, the patient has some flexibility. The final position of the teeth is not completely determined by the last aligner. If the patient wants to change the end position because the actual position is not optimal, new aligners are ordered, which are usually included in the originally quoted cost, called a ‘Refinement.’
Two or three weeks after preparation, your porcelain veneers will be ready for your teeth. At the time of your third appointment, doctor will first place the veneer on your teeth with water or glycerin to check the fit and color. At this point, the color of the veneer can still be adjusted by the shade of the cement used to adhere it. Once the color is determined and the veneer is ready to be applied, the tooth is cleaned with specific chemicals to achieve a bond. Special cement is placed between the teeth and the veneer and a special light is used to harden the cement. This appointment takes approximately one to two hours.
Care & Follow-Up of Porcelain Veneers
Brush and floss daily. Return for a follow-up visit after one to two weeks. You may notice some changes in your bite or speech, but these will subside within a few days as your mouth and brain adjust to your new beautiful smile.
Maintenance Of Your New Porcelain Veneers
Brush and floss as you normally would. Don’t be afraid that you will damage your veneers by doing so. Non-abrasive toothpaste is recommended. A good home care regimen will insure the best aesthetic success of your veneer.
You may experience some sensitivity to hot and cold after placement of your veneer. This is due to the amount of enamel left on the tooth after preparation. Sensitivity is totally normal and should dissipate in one to two weeks. If sensitivity persists, please call the office.
